Around 17 million retirees are set to receive holiday bonuses during Ramadan and Eid al-Adha. Last year, the holiday bonus saw a significant increase of 33%, rising from 3,000 lira to 4,000 lira. Now, attention has turned to the question: "When and how much will the 2026 pension bonus be paid?" Should the new amount for the holiday bonus pass through Parliament, the amount many will receive will become clear. So, what will be the amount of the pension holiday bonus? Here’s the latest update on the current situation regarding pension holiday bonuses.

AK PARTY GROUP CHAIRMAN ABDULLAH GULER'S STATEMENT ON THE PENSION HOLIDAY BONUS

Abdullah Güler, the Chairman of the AK Party Group, stated that there is no provision for an increase in pension holiday bonuses in the new financial regulation package presented to Parliament. He underlined the importance of budget discipline and the objectives of the Medium-Term Economic Program, saying, "As of now, there is no regulation related to this in the draft law."

Güler delivered a clear message on the expectation of an increase in pension bonuses, emphasizing the budget balances that affect 17.7 million retirees. He shared, "This proposal does not include a bonus increase. We have allocated a resource of 150 billion TL for 4,000 lira each for the SGK budget. We cannot predict what will happen in the future, but we have struggled to generate resources for pension increases within the framework of the OVP due to budget constraints."

On the other hand, discussions in the corridors suggest that the current holiday bonus of 4,000 TL could potentially rise to 5,000, 5,500, or even 6,000 TL. However, a specific rate for the pension bonus for Ramadan Bayram has not yet been established. Eyes are now set on the upcoming week for further updates.

WHEN WILL THE PENSION HOLIDAY BONUS (RAMADAN BAYRAMI) BE PAID?

The dates for paying the pension holiday bonuses will be clarified once the government makes an announcement. According to the calendar, with Ramadan Bayram being observed between March 20-24, payments are expected to be credited to bank accounts between March 9-15.

For the proposal regarding the bonus increase to come into effect, it first needs to be discussed in the Cabinet, then passed by the General Assembly of the Parliament, and finally published in the Official Gazette.

WHO CAN RECEIVE THE HOLIDAY BONUS?

The holiday bonus is paid to those receiving either income or pensions from SGK during the month that includes Ramadan and Eid al-Adha. Therefore, retirees receive this bonus twice a year. The holiday bonus provides some financial relief for the holiday expenses of retirees. Additionally, it enables retirees to buy gifts for their children and grandchildren, bringing joy to family celebrations.

To qualify for the holiday bonus, individuals must receive monthly payments or income from SGK in the month that includes the holiday. Those who retired before the end of February will receive their holiday bonus during Ramadan Bayram. Notably, it is not just retirees who benefit from the holiday bonus; anyone receiving an income or pension from SGK can also avail of it. This includes retirees, those receiving disability benefits, widows, orphans, individuals receiving permanent incapacity income due to work injuries, the rightful heirs of those who passed away while receiving permanent incapacity income due to work accidents, as well as individuals who work in countries with social security agreements and receive partial income or pensions from Turkey.
